About the Author

Rebecca Apostoli

Rebecca started their career as an artist and songwriter, taking Jazz Studies at Malaspina College in Nanaimo, B.C. and opening for artists such as Serena Ryder, Kaki King and Blackie & the Rodeo Kings. From a young age, Rebecca dreamed of a successful and sustainable career that would satisfy the need for constant challenges, new growth and a desire to see independent artists not just succeed, but thrive in Canada's competitive arts climate.

Rebecca moved to Vancouver, B.C. in 2006 and completed Capilano University's Advanced Arts & Entertainment Management Program, taking internships with Direct Current Media (managers of K'naan and Red1) and Hipjoint Productions (Troy Samson, Oscar Furtado). Rebecca went on to a number of career-building positions at companies such as Live Nation and the Commodore Ballroom before deciding to finish an undergraduate degree in Liberal Studies at Vancouver Island University.

Rebecca finished the degree in the spring of 2010 after a semester abroad in Florence, Italy, where a deep appreciation and passion for the creative arts were revived. After returning home to Vancouver and working for a variety of community organizations, media companies and festivals, Rebecca was being hired at Music BC Industry Association.

Through the work at Music BC, Rebecca gained critical insight and first-hand experience with the application and jury process behind music funding programs. In 2013, Rebecca founded an independent music company specializing in funding, education and creative consulting called Music Grants Canada, and has been working ever since to apply the valuable knowledge, skills and experience to providing educational resources, management services and creative consulting to independent artists, companies and organizations all across Canada.
